There are specific requirements that must be satisfied once an individual has been issued a Green Card and intends to seek U.S. citizenship through the naturalization process. As a Green Card holder, you must have been physically present in the United States for at least 50% of the time. You must not have been out of the country for more than one year, and ideally less than six months, prior to applying for citizenship.  You must not have committed a serious crime of moral depravity.   You must be able to write and speak English, as well as meet various criteria.
